Shipping of backorders has begun. These are going out as weather permits. If you order now, your order will be shipped when there is a break in the heat, with at least three consecutive days with temperatures no higher than 85 degrees both here and at the destination. We want you to receive your plants in good condition.
We have added many new varieties for 2008. Orders will be shipped in the order that we received them unless the customer specified a shipping date. Orders paid for by personal check will ship once the check has cleared.
This is your one-price hosta site. All our hostas cost ten dollars. Only the size varies. The size code legend spells out exactly what size plant you will receive. Sometimes you may get more; never less than promised. Don't need three clumps of one variety? Order together with a friend!
Nearly all hostas are propagated by tissue culture today. When we buy bare-root stock, we may know that the propagator grew the material in a field, but he may have bought TC plugs to grow on. So we cannot tell you whether or not our hostas originated in tissue culture, but most likely they did. When we know for certain that we have Originator Stock, the letters OS will follow the variety name.
We are strictly a mail-order business. No on-site sales.
Ours is a small nursery, and we do not grow large quantities of any one variety. It is best to order early, and list substitutes. Contact us for more information or when you wish to order multiples of any variety.
Our hostas are container-grown or field-grown divisions, shipped bare-root.
Size code legend:
TC+ A Tissue Culture plug that has been grown on for several months after one dormancy and is now ready to be planted in the garden.
All other sizes have had at least two dormant periods, but usually more.
E A mature, one-eye division of a container-grown or field-grown plant
E2 A mature, two-eye division of a container-grown or field-grown plant
C Three or more eyes; enough to make a small clump
C2 Six or more eyes, enough to make two clumps
C3 Nine or more eyes, enough to make three clumps
Are you new at this? Don't know where to start?
If you only have room for one hosta, we recommend 'Sagae'. It is the one we would choose.
Our list of the top ten, must-have hostas (not in any particular order):
- Sagae
- June
- Fried Green Tomatoes
- Krossa Regal
- montana 'Aureomarginata'
- Blue Mouse Ears
- Great Expectations
- Tardiflora
- Pandora's Box
- Striptease
It is so hard to stop here! The list does not include a "Big Blue" (we recommend 'Lakeport Blue'). We have not listed a hosta with white margins, either; 'Patriot' is always a good choice.
